2014 Rex Hospital Open Volunteer Committee Descriptions
Listed are the areas in which we need help, and a brief description of the duties and responsibilities of each:
Thursday – Sunday: Committee members are posted at admission gates to greet and check spectators for proper credentials. Volunteers will also handle Will Call and General Information. Two shifts daily from 7:00am-12pm and 12pm-4:00pm.
Monday – Sunday: Assist in collection of on-course collection of trash and recycling. Distribution and set up of on-course trash receptacles. Minimal walking or standing, moderate to heavy work. Two shifts daily from 8:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 7:00pm.
Thursday – Sunday: Assist corporate sponsors in hospitality areas by checking for proper credentials, meet and greet, oversee general flow and provide information to the corporate guests. Minimal walking or standing. Two shifts daily from 8:30am -11:00am and 11:00am – 6:30pm.
Thursday – Sunday: Volunteers will work on-course at manual leader board locations and the 18th green monster leader board. Hole scores will be posted real time. Moderate to heavy work. Two shifts daily from 8:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 6:00pm.
Thursday – Sunday: Volunteers will be assigned practice areas and holes. Marshals will be responsible to control the flow of spectators behind the ropes, and the players and officials inside the ropes. Moderate walking and standing. Two shifts Thursday – Friday from 7:00am – 12:30pm and 12:30pm – 6:00pm. Saturday & Sunday one 6 hour shift per hole assignment.
Monday – Sunday: Committee members will assist in the sale and distribution of Tournament merchandise.Moderate walking and standing, some lifting. Two shifts daily from 8:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 6:00pm. Some additional staffing needed during Pro-Ams and Tuesday evening reception.
Monday – Wednesday: Committee members register players for the tournament. They also serve as a resource for local amenities, referrals for health care providers, and overall concierge for other player needs. Two shifts daily from 7:00am – 12:00pm and 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
Monday – Sunday: Responsible for shuttling players from green to tee on several holes on course. Must have a valid driver’s license. Minimal walking or standing. Two shifts daily from 7:00am -1:00pm and 1:00pm – 7:00pm.
Monday – Sunday: Crowd control in practice area and distribution of balls to the players or caddies. Moderate level of walking, standing and moderate physical labor. Two shifts daily from 7:00am – 12:00pm and 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
Monday – Sunday: Responsible for distribution of food and beverage to on-course locations. Must have a valid driver’s license. Moderate level of walking, standing and moderate physical labor.Two shifts daily from 7:00am -1:00pm and 1:00pm – 7:00pm.
Pre-Event, Monday – Wednesday: Responsible for assisting in player registration, player gift distribution and pro-am coordination. Moderate level of walking, standing and some physical labor. Shifts daily from 6:00am, dependent upon day of the week.
Wednesday – Sunday: This team serves as the nucleus for receiving and relaying all scoring information during the event. Scoring control filters scoring information from the Walking Scorers to manual leader boards and serves as the checkpoint for score verification. Volunteers will input data into scoring computers and run scorecards. Light walking and standing. Two shifts from 7:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 7:00pm.
Wednesday – Sunday: The scoring tent volunteers ensure that the official scorecards are verified and signed by the professionals. Light walking and standing. Two shifts from 11:00am – 2:00pm and 4:00pm – 7:00pm.
Saturday – Sunday: A standard bearer will accompany each group of players. This committee requires adults and teenagers who are capable of carrying the double-sided standard that keep the gallery advised of each player’s score. Volunteer must be in good physical condition and be able to walk 18 holes at a pace to keep up with the players. Approximately 6 hours per day.
TOURNAMENT OFFICE SUPPORT
Pre-event, Monday – Sunday: Responsible for assisting the Tournament Office with answering phones, coordinate mailings, fulfilling general office and project needs prior to, and throughout tournament week. Two shifts daily from 7am – 12:00pm and 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
Pre-, during and post-event: Responsible for running the shuttle vans to and from the volunteer parking lot; and for assisting in getting volunteers to road accessible holes. Some airport runs for staff and players are possible. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and be over 21 years of age. Two shifts daily from 6:30am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 7:00pm.
Monday – Sunday: Provide volunteer hospitality functions during the tournament. Set up and maintain food and beverage areas. Assist Marshal Chairpersons with on-course lunch and beverage delivery. Minimal walking or standing. These volunteers may also fill in any last minute needs and open spots in other committees. Two shifts daily from 6:00am – 12:00pm and 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
Thursday – Sunday: A walking scorer will accompany each group of players, use a hand held device to track statistics and results, and report scores by radio to Scoring Control. It is essential to have knowledge of golf and be in good physical condition with the ability to walk 18 holes at a pace to keep up with the players. Approximately 6 hours per day, AM or PM shifts each day. Volunteers MUST work a weekday to be considered for weekend shifts
