Shindler tops Raleigh’s Hadley in Rex playoff (N&O)

Golf can be as cruel as it is rewarding. In 2013, Raleigh’s Chesson Hadley rolled in a short birdie putt at the 18th hole on Sunday to clinch the Rex Hospital Open at TPC Wakefield Plantation. The ovation that day was loud, special. Four years later, Hadley missed a 3 1/2-footer for par at the 18th, on the first hole of a playoff against Conrad Shindler, to lose the Web.com Tour tournament. Rex golf: Lee grabs lead after Hadley’s late slip (N&O)

Raleigh’s Jenkins makes golf a family affair (N&O)

Bobby Jenkins dropped the golf bag outside the ropes by the 18th green Saturday at TPC Wakefield Plantation, his day’s work done, his frustration apparent. The caddie, hands on hips, stood for a few seconds staring back down the 18th fairway, as if imagining what might have been. Early in the third round of the Rex Hospital Open, after a run of five straight birdies, any score seemed possible, but Jenkins’ player later had a pair of double-bogeys in a 2-under 69. Luke DeCock: At Rex Hospital Open, pros take aim at range-finder technology (N&O)

Typically prohibited during tournaments, the Rex Hospital Open is one of four Web.com Tour events this summer where the use of range-finders is allowed as part of a PGA Tour trial project to improve pace of play and assess their impact on the game.
